1. install VLC (go to this page and click any 1 of the top 6 links.. i would suggest either one of the first 2 links)
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html
(you can dowload it to your desktop or whatever but if you "dont know where it went" after it's done downloading, then use [Start] -> [Search] -> "search for files and folders" -> search for "vlc*.exe" and double-click that file when it does get found.. follow the easy install instructions.)
2. insert DVD..
3. run VLC and click the
Play or
Open button(or choose
File,
Open Disc..) (run vlc by double-clicking the new icon on the desktop or by traversing the [Start] -> [All Programs] -> [VideoLAN] menu and clicking one of those icons)
4. make sure the
Disc tab is shown rather than the
File,
Network, or
DirectShow tabs.
4a. Disc type = DVD (select the radio type check button for DVD)
4b. Click the
OK button..
5. If the DVD doesn't start playing automatically at that point then just click the
Play button.
Aside from VLC you should be able to traverse the DVD pretty easily.. it will open to a general menu where you can select various options such as watching behind the scenes footages, or checking out some extra videos or whatever else might have been supplied on that DVD. The menus will look, act, and operate different depending on each DVD, but just look for a "watch the movie" button to click.. or you can use the arrow keys to move the selector around within the DVD menu and hit enter to select it.
