Can't set VLC Player to open video files anymore

For some reason, I cannot associate video file with my VLC Player any more, and I cannot understand it. :?:
I mean I set it as the default player when I first installed it, and have changed nothing that I am aware of , but now if I right click on the files, which are all trying to open with Windows Media Player, VLC Player does not even show up in the choices, and if I navigate to the folder, and try to directly set it, it just switches to another player, but not the VLC Player, which I want to use???? :(
I am using Windows 7 Home Premium, and have never seen this happen until tonight when i went to play a video file I have, and realized that it seems like VLC has been uninstalled, or is for some other reason no longer an option??
WHAT IS GOING ON HERE PLEASE?? :?

Reinstall VLC and carefully check files associations during installation.
