It doesn't play subtitle if filenames are NOT in 8.3 format!

Postby adaz » 29 Jul 2005 22:11

Hello!

If have found a BUG!

When the filename IS LONGER than the 8.3 format, VLC doesn't play subtitles if I doubleclick on .avi
If the filename (and the subtitle name) IS in 8.3 format, it plays the subtitles too. Why?
This is very confusing, because I cannot make it the default player, every time I have to open VLC, open file menu, open avi file, checkbox, open subtitle, etc... aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh :)

Can anybody tell me a solution?

Thanks!

We have heard this before. Windows opens the 8.3 backwardscompatible name of the file in VLC. Since vlc will then use that name to lookup the subtitles, it won't find them. However when you use VLC to add the files, (instead of doubleclicking or openwith in Windows explorer), then it does work.

(or it was the other way around)
I'm not sure, but i believe we fixed something like this already ONCE. It might be that this was after the previous release, or that the problem occurs in multiple areas.
