all vlc versions are available on the download mirrors : http://downloads.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/

but you could also try fixing your problems. First try reseting your preferences ... fixes many people' s problems.

I'm not saying that i've found much wrong with the new version, i think vlc is hands down one of the best programs out there

it's just that my computer is rather old, as in 8 years old, and can be slow at times, 0.8.2 seems to run slower than 0.8.1 did.

run it with a special commandline to fine tune the runtime environment, and getting those specialties into the saved configuration settings? -tweaked for an 8 yr old machine with lower processing power, memory and graphics abilities.
