Trouble with mkv

I have an mkv file that I have played in vlc without trouble many times, however recently it cuts out a few minutes before the video ends. I can open the file and play from after the point the video cuts out with no problem, or at any point before.
I tried getting a new copy of the file, which now acts in the same way. Any suggestions?

VLC version? When was the file created?

VLC version 2.0.5, file created 30 Jan this year, started cutting out 31 March and new file was created 2 April.

Ok, try VLC 2.0.6 from nightly builds.

Using VLC 2.0.6, the video pixellates and sound stutters for the second where the video broke before, but continues to play normally afterwards, rather than stopping entirely.

I can confirm problems openning .mkv files. VLC crashes when attempting to open it.

System Info:

VLC Build: VLC 2.1.0-git-20130402-1129 Rincewind
Skin mode: Native mode
System: Windows XP - 32 bits.
File: Format mkv movie - 701 MB

The problem is even bigger. With build VLC 2.1.0-git-20130402-1129 Rincewind VLC crashes when trying to play *.avi, *.mkv, *.mp4 .

System Info:

VLC Build: VLC 2.1.0-git-20130402-1129 Rincewind
Skin mode: Native mode
System: Windows XP - 32 bits.
File type error: avi / mkv / mp4

Well it works for me on my win7, so it's not very conclusive. Are you using GPU decoding?

If i set "hardware-accelerated decoding" to automatic, then VLC crashes. If i set it to None, it works and plays the file without error, for the file types i described. So, there is some issue with hardware-accelerated decoding under Windows XP with VLC VLC 2.1.0-git-20130402-1129 Rincewind. I can't say if the error is in the VLC side or in the driver side. Using Ati IGP.

It's most likely a video driver issue.
