Hi everyone, I am having problems playing this video. This has been happening for quite a while now but I've ignored it most of the time, however I've decided to try fix it. Basically I get random coloured patches on my videos, a few examples is shown below:

This doesn't happen with all my videos, only some, the video I'm playing atm is an mkv file. I'm also pretty sure it's not the file's problem nor is it my laptop's problem (I'm on windows 7). I'm not very good at technical computer stuff, so it anyone could tell me how to fix this problem that'd be great, thanks!

Can you try 2.0.6 ? Did you enable hardware acceleration?

Sorry I'm pretty bad with these terms, is 2.0.6 a newer version of vlc? How do I get it? Also what is hardware acceleration?

Thanks

VLC 2.0.6 is a soon (I hope) to be released version. You can find it on http://nightlies.videolan.org

Hardware decoding is when you use your GPU to decode the video.
It can be found in Tools->Preferences then in the Input & Codecs thumbnail there is a checkbox "Use GPU accelerated decoding".

In what state is it? (looking at your screenshot... I'd say it's on.)

If it's checked uncheck it, if it's unchecked check it, save and restart VLC.

Retry to play your file. If there is still no improvement, I'm interested in the file.
