VLC keeps playing the 2nd audio track

I have a video file that has (2) audio tracks. Track 1 is English, Track 2 is German. Whenever I play the file, it defaults to Track 2 - German. I tried putting the language preference in the Preferences (English or EN), but this didn't work. Any ideas why it keeps defaulting to Track 2?

Well, I discovered an app called mkvmerge, which allowed me to remove that track and remux the file. If anyone knows how to change the default track without remuxing, please post. Thanks.

Can you share the file?

I've had this same problem, with content that has other than English as the default language... But I've always set English as default language in the player and it usually works. Can I get this MKVMerge from somewhere? Of course I'll google it, so thanks for the info.
