Cannot play any more *.avi videos with AVC codec

If I want to play some but not all *.avi movies since a few days are played in a competely crappy mode. They are highly pixelated. See this snapshot:

Sound seems to be ok. I am using VLC 2.0.4 under 64bit Win7.

If I want to play them under under other videoplayers (e.g. MediaPlayerClassic Home) then everything is ok.
Even If I played them in the past with (older) VLC versions they could be played correctly.

So there must be something wrong with the VLC setup.
What could it be?

The codec specification inside the *.avi movies look like in the following snapshots (from tool MediaInfo):

I have a similar issue with .avi videos, though they're not movies. But it's been a consistent problem with all the .avi files I've tried playing through VLC. I updated to VLC 2.0.5 and so far, the videos are running smoothly. Though I cannot guarantee it's a permanent fix.

Update to v2.0.5 does not help.

Download this (cut) video chunk and try to play it with VLC:

The sample you provided works for me very well. Probaly you should change some settings in VLC preferences if it does not work by default. First of all try to manually reset preferences to defaults by deleting %appdata%\vlc folder before you start VLC. If it does not help then try to check some settings in VLC preferences.

Tools > Preferences > ( Show settings = Simple ) >
> Video: Display section
> Input&Codecs: Codecs section

Tools > Preferences > ( Show settings = All ) >

> Input/Codecs \ Video codecs \ FFmpeg:
- Skip the loop filter for H.264 decoding [Bidir]
- [ ] Hardware decoding
