updated to new VLC now does not work????

I updated to the new version of VlC and now there is no sound when my mp3 files are played. It looks like its playing but there is no sound. I have checked my pc an my sound is working. I played the files before in an older version but it said to remove that version before I downloaded the new one. Now nothing works on my VLC. How can I get this to work again? I really like this product an I dont want to have to get something else so please help me get it working again. Thank you.

Have you tried reinstalling an old version? If you go to the downloads page and select your operating system you can choose older versions via a link near the bottom of the page.
