No picture when watching on TV

Postby paulsparrow » 06 Jan 2013 06:50

I use to run an old computer to my TV and watch movies with VLC. I recently changed to a newer (but still old) computer running XP. I have a video connect going to a monitor and one DVI/VGA to my TV. I have my display set to cloan and can toggle between my monitor view and sending it to my TV. All that works fine. However when trying to play back on VLC I get the program up but the picture is just black. Sound works and everything else is visible.

My vid card is a Asus 9400g and I can play back stuff in Window Media player or Quick time just fine. Only VLC won't display the picture.

Any help?

You might want to try changing 'Overlay video output' in 'Video>General video settings'. The wrong overlay setting Will usually give you a black video screen with the audio working properly.
