Youtube playback doesn't work

Postby TheHardSell » 03 Jan 2013 23:00

I've searched and read the other posts however after trying each suggestion and uninstalling and installing VLC again, Youtube playback still does not work. I have got the recently updated version but when using 'Open Network Stream' and inserting the link it comes up with the error window saying -
'Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFRpHsY5djo'. Check the log for details.'

Is there anyway to fix this, am I doing anything wrong or..?

Cheers.

Try with http instead of https. That is:

Code: Select all

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFRpHsY5djo
^Should work fine.

Think it's a gnutls/Winsock related bug:

Code: Select all

EDIT: Seems it's not Windows-specific:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/7925

Note it seems to occur for https in general.

Youtube playback still does not work... 'Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFRpHsY5djo'. Check the log for details.'
Today I have tried to see a Youtube video by VLC and I report the same issue of TheHardSell.
I have tried with this address: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5RT4Jodpic
What should I do?

^Tested link and works fine for VLC 2.0.5 (x86) on Windows 7.

What are VLC's messages?

Are you asking to me? If yes, I must say my VLC (2.0.1) opens no video from Youtube. It always says "VLC can't recognize the input's format: The format of 'http://www.youtube.com/v/v2AC41dglnM' cannot be detected. Have a look at the log for details".

What a strange: I entered http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2AC41dglnM but VLC reports instead http://www.youtube.com/v/v2AC41dglnM. Is it normal?

YouTube keeps changing. There is no way old VLC versions will work, not even 2.0.1.

As Rémi said YouTube keeps changing, so update VLC to the latest version (currently 2.0.5) and try the link again.

VLC 2.0.5 TwoFlower, on 201303231807 GMT, I get this error:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzEy91IKSCE'. Check the log for details.

My video's URL is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzEy91IKSCE

This is the first time I've tried to use VLC for YT, so I might be doing something wrong.

How does VLC deal with SSL (https) ?

Update - I answered my own question - deleted the "s" in https when I pasted in the link to VLNC , and now it works.

I have VLC 2.0.5 now, I have done several tries, but my VLC still opens no video from Youtube. It still says "VLC can't recognize the input's format: The format of 'http://www.youtube.com/v/v2AC41dglnM' cannot be detected. Have a look at the log for details".
