Play .xwm /.xwma file with VLC

As some people may know .xwm is a form of .xwma and similar to .wma and is used as the audio format for TES:Skyrim. I have checked many forums associated with that game and they all suggest VLC as the best media player for .xwm files. However when trying to play music files in .xwm format ther player launches but nothing is actually played as in so sound or even indication that the file loaded. I am not technically savvy and form what I found on previously mentioned forums the only requirement to play .xwm was just the VLC player. Is there something else required like an extention or codec? I have latest version 2.0.5
anything related would be welcome as well.

I don't think VLC can read any .xw file

The OP asked about .xwm and .xwma files. Jean-Baptiste Kempf instead answered about .xv files.
The .xv extension is used by Xunlei's Video player, a piece of malware popular in China. I guess they are unrelated.
To the OP, I tried to play .xwm files extracted from Skyrim .fuz files. On Windows, result is distorted sound but identifiable of their real content. On linux, VLC cannot play the file format. It could be a VLAN version number difference instead of OS different though.

Old topic, but I'll reply here, to help others who search for help on this matter. I you want to play xwm files, you can do this with VLC. However, the latest versions don't play them, so stick with version 2.0.0 on Windows 7, which plays them.
