Major problem with VLC playing MXF OP1a 29.97 video

Postby lasvideo » 08 Dec 2012 18:23

I am a 30 year veteran editor as well as a beta tester for Adobe / AJA and Boris FX.

Many folks have recently switched to PCs after Apple killed FCP 7. This means Prores and Quicktime related processes are not ideal due to the bottleneck created by qt32server in editing and related software.

Heres the problem.

I am mastering now in MXF OP1a AVC-I 100. I have done lots of projects in 23.976 FPS which play back fine in VLC.

Many Distributors require the NTSC format to be 29.97 FPS.

When VLC trys to play these MXF OP1a AVC -I 100 at 29.97 THE AUDIO PLAYS AT DOUBLE TIME. I have many other editors reporting this same behavior.

Thousands of editors are switching to PC workflows and currently OP1a is the most desirable non Quicktime codec. But VLC is the only media player that will display it, and right now it has dysfunctional playback of 29.97 files.

Please help us fix this. :D

Just let me know how and I will post a 29.97 NTSC selection so you can see (and hear) this problem.

You did not tell me how I attach a video file so I can share it with you. I do not see any way to do so.

Problem is known and understood (wrong samplerate) and might be fixed in a later release

Thanks! I certainly hope it will be fixed since there are lots of professional editors relying on VLC to play their MXF OP1a files. There is no alternative player.

I see this topic hasn't been posted to in quite a while, but I just started using MXF in my workflow, and I seem to have the same problem. I am rendering MXF from Sony Vegas Pro 12 using Sony's HD422 codec at 1920x1080 29.97 FPS.

Video plays fine, but audio is double-time. Only place I can "play" the MXF is inside Vegas Pro, which is better than nothing, but makes the file a bit hard to share :-|

Any update on this issue would be appreciated. THANKS!

Hi!

I work with MXF files and I use VLC. I get VLC since the first versions and I dont know why VLC don't read audio in MXF files.

I say that because one version read the MXF files, including audio, perfectly.

This version is 1.1.11

So if the creators analyze this version may be the solution is there...

I Hope this information helps a little.

(Sorry my english).

I tryed v2.1.0 RC2 and still no audio playback in MXF files.

By the way, at video playback (MXF files) appears with a black line in the top of the vídeo like the black bars of wide format at 4:3
Also the counter doesn't work with MXF files, there is no progression slide.

However this is a great media player and developers are doing a great job.

Hope can fix this issues with MXF files.

Is your file "MXF SAMPLE for VLC.mxf" ?
If so then I have no problem so far playing it with VLC 2.1.0-rc2.

Yes, thats the file I sent.

I still have no audio playback with mxf files.

If you listen áudio from MXF with this rc2 version, why I do not?
What possible to be wrong?

What possible to be wrong?
Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com if it's too long.

Try another audio output module:
http://wiki.videolan.org/WindowsFAQ-2.0 ... _anomalies

And/or some other audio options:
viewtopic.php?p=339577#p339577

And finally you can try VLC 2.1.0-rc2.
