VLC freezes when moving playback location

Hello all,
When ever I try to move the location of my playback (as in fastforward or rewind) the applicatino freezes.
I also noticed that the length of the video appears incorrectly after this error occurs (the original lengtsh is about 30 minutes and after appears an hour and a half).
I tried reinstalling but that didn't help.
Any advice would be apreciated.

Update to last version and reset preferences.

That seems to be the canned answer. I did it and still the same trouble on my system.

Change the video output in preferences.

Installed MKV Player and the video plays perfect. Not sure why VLC is having so many problems with this.

This can happen when seeking without cues (ie seek index) vlc will read the whole file until the wanted time and it can take a bunch of time if the file is big and/or on an slow support like USB key...
Showing the logs could help (tools->messages->set verbosity to 2 then start the playback).
