YouTube Question

Postby ddn2003 » 30 Oct 2012 05:18

When playing YouTube videos, is there a place in VLC 2.0.4 to choose which quality to play? Right now, it seems like it's playing the 1080p quality.

Thanks in advance!

If there is a preference to change it, where is it? I search the preferences for YouTube and came up with nothing

It's part of your user profile on Youtube. If you're not logged in the option isn't visible and there's no control over default video quality.

I think he means when playing a YouTube video in VLC. VLC doesn't link to your YouTube account.

You need to set the "Preferred Resolution" in VLC. The YouTube lua playlisdt entension then chooses the best format based on that setting. By default it selects the "Best available" (i.e. highest resolution available).

To change this, go to (in VLC):
Tools >> Preferences >> (Select "All" for "Show settings") >> Input / Codecs

And select your preferred resolution from the "Preferred Resolution" drop-down box. Press "Save", restart VLC, then try a YouTube video.
