[Windows 8] Subtitle italic by default issue?

Hi All,

I just upgraded my machine from Windows 7 to Windows 8 Professional. After that, all the subtitles was automatically displayed as italic and I could not remove the effect. In Windows 7, everything was fine. I was using the same version 2.0.3 for both windows.

Please help.

Every fonts I changed to are converted to italic by default, except for the bold ones.

I have the exact same problem after upgrading to Windows 8. All italics, all the time.

Very well. This seems a VLC on Windows 8 issue.

I have exactly the same problem - all subtitles and closed captions are set to italics under Win 8 Pro x64, VLC 2.05, and the OSD of the file name as well. All display properly under Win7 Ultimate x64 and XP SP3 x86 (32 bit) with VLC 2.0.5.

I have seen no other instances of forced italics in other programs under Win 8 in the 2 weeks I have been using it.

Happened to me too. It appears to take effect only with some fonts, see my SuperUser question: http://superuser.com/questions/555923

Actually I have exactly the opposite problem to Wild.Popy - I am using VLC on windows 8 and can't figure out how to turn the Subtitles OFF :)

Can anyone help with that? :?:

This should work, assuming it's an .mkv file.

I found just changing them from Arial did the job and put them back to a non-italic state.

I am curious as to why it cant be fixed though, is it a code issue from Microsoft themselves?

I changed the default encoding to "System codeset" and the sub's normal again. Tested using Open Sans and Segoe UI. Hope this helps :D
