Hi,
I have just noticed that with the latest build of VLC 2.1.0 the audio channel mapping are incorrect.
When playing an mkv with 5.1 audio the Left and Right Front channels are mapped to the Left and Right Rear channel.
Does this happen for anybody else ?

What OS, what audio output?

The OS is Win7 64bit and my soundcard is an ASUS Xonar DX with 5.1 speaker.
It is working fine for me with VLC 2.0.4 version, it is only with VLC 2.1.0 that the Front channel speakers are put on the back speakers.

Wasapi or DirectSound?

Under Audio->Output modules->Audio output module: default
Audio->Output modules->DirectX : Output device: Primary Sound Driver

Change the output to DirectX, does it work better?

Yes changing the output from 'default' to 'DirectX' make it work. All the audio channel are now mapped to the correct speakers.

Hi,

I found a bug in vlc-2.1.0-git-20120903-0003-win32 also, in the new remap audio filter.

I tried to remap the 2channels of a stereo audio channels of a video file from the front left and right to any other channel (e.g, rear left and right or side left and right or center and sub woofer).

In all these cases all the channels will be muted. I have tried the same video file to remap the channels in the same way in Media player classic HC and it succeed very easily.

I hope this will helps the developers.

Oh, and one other thing: when I remap one of the left or right channels to Center (let's say left mapped to center), all the 8 channels will be mapped from the left.

Do you know about this bug?

When should we expect the release of this awesome version release?

I'm experiencing the same issue. My old 3 speaker setup died a tragic death so I just installed a new 5 speaker setup. Sound only comes out of the center speaker and it comes how sounding tinny and horrible. By the way, why is "Audio Channels" greyed out anyways??

I have Windows Vista (why vista? self hate issues or laziness, take your pick.) RealTek HD sound card, DirectX 10.0, not sure what else you want to know. I did have to mess with settings on the computer to get the speakers working with other things. Uninstalled and reinstalled VLC just to see if it would help. It didn't.

You mean to make the Audio Output Module as DirectX Audio output? I have already tried this also, and did not work (i.e., the same issue happened with choosing DirectX Audio output instead of Default).

This is still not available with the current version (VLC 2.0.3). We expect this feature (Remap Audio filter) with the next release VLC 2.1.0.

The new Remap filter allows to custom mapping the channels of the pc from any channel to any other channel.

I am trying this with the experimental version of the VLC (vlc-2.1.0-git-20120903-0003-win32).

Okay it sounds tons better now, but it's still only coming out of my center speaker. Audio Channels is no longer greyed out, though audio channels doesn't give you many options. Just stereo, left, right and reverse stereo and I have to pick one of those four. None of those choices actually changes anything. Only my center speaker has any sound routing to it. The other four speakers get nothing. Also tried DirectX output with the same result.

So it's no longer painful to listen to and that's progress, but VLC only sends sound to one speaker. Unplug that speaker and you get no sound at all.
