Bugs with VLC Player 2.1

Postby nikhita09 » 20 Aug 2012 11:32

Hello Friends,

There are couple of bugs I have found with VLC Player 2.1 & I would like to share those with you -

1) By default Repeat and 'Repeat All' gets selected. Even after changing the settings and saving it again, next time, when we open VLC player, these options gets marked by default.

2) Bookmarks don't remain when VLC player is closed and opened again. Similarly other options also gets reset after opening the player next time.

3) If by default, any wrong input is given to VLC media player, it gets crashed.

4) Playing video from YouTube is very very slow.

5) After selecting 'Set as wallpaper', it gets removed after VLC player is closed.

Well, 2.1 is not out, so this is expected.

Sorry, actually I meant VLC media player 2.0.3 Twoflower.
Aren't these defects present in this version?

Most of these are more feature requests than bugs.
1) By default Repeat and 'Repeat All' gets selected. Even after changing the settings and saving it again, next time, when we open VLC player, these options gets marked by default.
VLC should remember the last repeat state when closing VLC. If not, perhaps clear VLC's preference and cache files in case something is set that isn't by default:

2) Bookmarks don't remain when VLC player is closed and opened again. Similarly other options also gets reset after opening the player next time.
That's true. A known issue:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/5314
3) If by default, any wrong input is given to VLC media player, it gets crashed.
As in VLC actually crashes? If an unknown format is given to VLC it normally just tries to play it, and if it can't stops.
4) Playing video from YouTube is very very slow.
How does it compare to in-browser? Work very well for me.
5) After selecting 'Set as wallpaper', it gets removed after VLC player is closed.
If you want "Set as Wallpaper" to always be on, go to:
Tools >> Preferences >> (Select "All" for "Show settings") >> Video

Then check "Enable wallpaper mode" and press "Save". Restart VLC and a video should by default play with wallpaper mode enabled.

Arite.

I found some more, can you please check -

1. When we click save playlist to file in .m3u and .m3u8 format and again try to open the saved file in vlc, the file doesn't get opened.

2. Whatever changes we do, settings don't get applied right there. We need to again restart the vlc. Isn't that's a bug? Changes should get reflected as soon as they are applied.

the latest 2.1 is playing interlaced network streams on a secondary monitor the best yet. video smooth, audio in sync. nice work
i have tried a few new settings, back to embedded video, continuous stream in access modules and turned hurryup off, not sure if they make a difference. For me it's running much better than previous months :)
cheers

audio disappears and there is no volume control on screen when audio is on digital

4/9 no other 2.1 comes as close to flawless 50fps. shame the audio drops out. setting directx and stereo from defualt 5.1 didnt fix it. 2.0.4 doesnt suffer this problem. audio disappears and there is no volume control on screen when audio is on digital or internal.
later versions of 2.1 revert back to poor sync (both monitors) and bad framerate on secondary. todays 2.1 messes up aspect ratio on 25fps deinterlacers

not 4/9. tripped out there. it's the 5/9 that is working better.
i've been changing that many settings and versions that i'm not entirely sure what's helping and what isn't.
basically ive got to a point where the stream plays with bob deinterlacing without constant noticable little skipping.
i seem to have lost my best settings tho. lol but audio working good again

The Solution to Audio Skipping

Postby xozoome » 28 Sep 2012 02:01

RE: The audio problem in 2.2 that causes the sound to drop out every few seconds:

Un-check "Enable Time-Stretching audio" under audio settings in the Prefs.
