HTTP authentication window before and after a stream

I listen to a radio stream that is only streaming part time. When I try to play it before the stream is going, I get the HTTP authentication window asking for my user name and password. WHY?
When I cancel, it then pops up the Errors window displaying:
Your Input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://...
I keep trying to close these windows but they keep popping back unnecessarily, getting in the way of trying to do ANYTHING ELSE with VLC (Errors covers up the main VLC window).

Why should it be asking for my password when I'm trying to OPEN a stream to RECEIVE (not send)? No other player asks me for this when there is no stream active

How can I close VLC or change to another media with it when these windows are perpetually in the way (Errors can't be moved when HTTP auth is open, main can't be moved or closed when Errors is open).

This continues to be very annoying. Why won't VLC let me quit when it's asking for a login? The main window should at least be closable (QUIT) when it's asking for authentication. And it shouldn't be asking for authentication when I'm trying to RECEIVE a stream whether it's online or off.

Are you using a proxy ?
I'm getting the same problem since v2.0.3 but only when using a proxy while it was fine with v2.0.2.

Hi, Im getting the same problem. No proxy, but when i checked the IE options the use automatic configuration script box was checked it was set to about:blank, when I unchecked it it seemed to correct this problem. I dont think its the version cause it did the same thing with ver 1.0 so I'm almost sure its this blocking the stream. Why ask for http authentication when the stream is open not password protected? Anyway its in the LAN settings of the internet options in the control panel of windows. hope this helps
Cheers
