Stream recording

1. I have VLC 2.0.1 as default.
2. I have WinXp Prof Sp3
I am new to VLC as well this forum also I am not an expert on software or hardware. I have a specific need for which I am in lookout for a solution as below:
I sometimes play Videos at You Tube or other sites on my computer. Perhaps those videos are played through my VLC player. Some videos I want to watch as well save them into disk files to be seen repeatedly at will.
If someone could suggest me a solution please. (I may beg to say that solution has to be in simple user language for I am not very conversant with computer technology).
Thanks in advance.

1. Launch VLC.
2. Check Menu -> View -> Advanced Control. If you Advanced Control is on, recording button (red circle) should exist.
3. Select Media -> Open Network Stream and enter URL that you want to play. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXX)
4. Play and push recording button.

Recorded file (vlc-YYYY-mm-dd-HHh-MMm-XXX.mkv) is in "My Video" folder (C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\My Videos).
