VLC 2.0.1 crashes on accessing Customize Interface

Postby Chrisi22 » 21 Jun 2012 02:51

Been using VLC portable 2.0.1 in Vista x64 for a good while. The interface / toolbar had maybe 4 - 5 advanced icons, all on same line as default toolbar. Worked fine for weeks. Today, opened VLC & noticed the advanced option icon were on a line above default toolbar (now 2 rows vs 1 in past).

Went to Customize Interface & tried to drag the advanced icons down to same line as default ones. (I believe this is how I got all of them on one line, in the past).
Closed customize interface - no change to toolbar, after restarting VLC. It still plays movies, but now if I access "Customize Interface", VLC crashes immediately - with or w/o a video. All other menus are OK.

1) Is there a way to reset / delete lines, values or some action to toolbar profiles for the interface prefs in vlc-qt-interface.ini (hopefully, so I can access it again) w/o wiping out ALL custom settings in all other menus?
2) AFAICT, in Preferences - "Reset Preferences" will reset ALL prefs (not just for the one area you're viewing at the moment, like "Interface." True or not?
3) Below are my toolbar profiles from vlc-qt-interface.ini. I see the "most recent" is VLC 1.1, probably because I didn't change any toolbar settings after upgrading to 2.0:

Well, no replies, but I found a quick way around the problem.
I STILL like to know if you're in Preferences on a particular page (like Audio) & hit "Reset Preferences," does that reset prefs for EVERYTHING?

Fortunately, I backed up the VLC ini file after installing 2.0.1 & making any needed changes. I just copied that BU over the existing vlc-qt-interface.ini file & was back in business w/o losing other modifications.

No, only the preferences themselves but in your case you may need to delete the whole %appadata%\vlc folder so it will also reset the interface settings.

Not clear on your reply, "No, only the prefs themselves...". Maybe I wasn't clear - I was only talking about preferences.

I meant, while in Preferences (which has many areas - audio, video, etc.), while on ONE preference page / area, does the reset preferences button - that appears at bottom of EVERY prefs page - reset ALL preferences (for ALL areas of preferences) OR.... just the preferences for the one area you are viewing at the time?

As in, if looking at the Video section of preferences & click reset preferences, does it reset them to default only for Video, or for all prefs that have been changed from default. My thinking is it will reset ALL preferences to default.

It resets everything to default. Or at least it should (it won't work in all situations).
