Green stripe down centre of screen (VLC 2.xx)

Which ever type of video I play, there is a significant green vertical stripe in the middle of the screen, the colours either side being diminished.
This happens on all VLC 2 versions, and no action I take has any effect.
The only way to solve it was to reinstall the last of the version 1 series, which gave perfect results every time.
My computer is a DELL Dimension 3000 running on XP Professional with SP3.
My back-up computer running on Vista, also displays the same problem and solved by the same method.
How do I remove the dreaded Green stripe or will the next update address this issue?

Try another video output module:

You can also try to enable or disable some video options such as Overlay and/or Hardware YUV -> RGB conversions.

Many thanks, although the problem isn't entirely resolving itself.
Is there a reason that this glitch only occurs on version(s) and not on ALL previous versions since VLC appeared on the scene?
Many of my freinds in the UK and Czech Republic have encountered this gremlin, and between us we have Windows, Linux, Mac and Apple.

I have exactly the same problem on my VAIO laptop running WinXP. I have installed the latest VLC 2.0.1
I tried numerous different settings with no result.
But here is an interesting discovery: Go to Tools -> Track Synchronization -> Video Effects -> Advanced. Put a check mark in "Clone", Number of clones 2. This will produce two windows, each of which is entitled "VLC (Direct 3D output)".
One of these windows has the familiar green-yellow stripe in the middle (as well as some ghosting in blue), but the other window is clean as a whistle! Unfortunately, you can't just close one of these windows and leave the other, so the best I could do is maximize the clean window. Unfortunately also is that all the controls are in a third window. Strange...
I will now try the suggested Output module and will report back on how that works.
