VLC 2.X.X series does not play blu-ray iso files

Hello to every one:

I have been reading a lot about playing blu-ray iso files in VLC 2.00 and 2.1.0 but I had no success. My OS is Windows 7. I got the iso files (whole movie) from AnyDVD HD from Slysoft. I follow to the letter all the recommendations posted to make it work but nothing happened. I downloaded from http://vlc-aacs.whoknowsmy.name/ the KEYDB.cfg file (I copied and pasted it into notepad and renamed to cfg) and the libaacs.dll file. The KEYDB file was put into a created aacs folder into Roaming folder (path is Users(user name)-->AppData-->Roaming-->aacs(created)--> KeyDB.cfg and libaacs.dll was copied into Program Files-->VideoLan--> VLC. I also tried to mount the files onto a virtual drive (VirtualClone Drive from SlySoft) but nothing happened when I try to play the them. Every time I open the files in VLC and press play, VLC tried to start (you see some variation on the -:- symbols on the bottom left corner but nothing happens. I can play the files in VSO media player so the files are OK. Could anyone point me in the right direction and help me out ?

Thanks in advance.

No, you need to mount the iso before.

Jean-Baptiste Kempf:

I have mount the blu-ray.iso before to play it in VLC but it can not read it. Blu-ray iso is in UDF format. Is that format supported by libdvdcss (current version 1.2.12) ?

Thanks,

Blu-ray ISO has not been supported yet.

Jean-Baptiste Kempf or anyone who can assist me:

After I activated the logger interface in VLC i got the following log file:

[015f3778] logger interface: Copyright C 1996-2012 VLC authors and VideoLan
[015f3778] logger interface:
Warning: if you cannot access the GUI anymore, open a command-line window, go to the directory where you installed VLC and run "vlc -I qt"

libdvnav: DVDOpenFileUDF:UDFFind File /VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.BUP failed
libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.IFO
libdvdnav: vm: failed to read VIDEO_TS.IFO

libdvdread: Can't open file VIDEO_TS.BU

It seems that the program is looking for normal DVD files (VIDEO_TS.IFO and VIDEO_TS.BUP) instead of mt2 files (Blu ray DVD files). How can I get VLC to look for mt2 files ?

Thanks in advance.

When you open the disc (Media -> Open Disc), you have to select BluRay from the disc selection, default is DVD.

Hello nkoriyama:

Thanks so much for your reply.I have have the bd.iso files in a hard drive folder. I mount the file that I want to play in F:\ with VirtualClone Drive and try to play that file from there by using VLC player. Selecting blu-ray option in Media -->Open Disc does not make a diference.

You could just extract the ISO to a folder, then open that folder as a disk. What I do.

Hi MrBurrows, Are you saying that VLC will play iso files (blue ray ripped) from an external hard drive? Could you tell me exactly how this is done. This is great news for me as my power dvd ultra v 7.3319a all of a sudden crashes after playing 1 file. 5 years of collecting HD DVD and Blue Ray and this is the first real problem I ran into. I need any kind of software that works free or pay. Please help if you can. Vista 32 bit. HD DVD Rom and Blue ray writer on 1 drive. BD rom on other drive. HDCP compliant system. Thanks, tangone111
