VLC won't play "And All That Could Have Been" DVD

I've had this DVD for maybe seven years, so it's nothing new and there are no problems with the disc. In VLC the DVD menu opens and I can click through to other menus but as soon as I click a menu item that is supposed to play video, VLC immediately stops and displays the VLC logo without trying to read the disc. Any ideas? Looks like I'm going to have to start using WMP11 again...
