DVDSimple command with VLC v2.01

I have 2 Windows 7 PC's, one is 64bit and one is 32bit.
On the 64bit I can send the command
and it will play the DVD in drive D: with no issues.
On the 32bit I send the command
and it errors.
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "\\D:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvdsimple://D:'. Check the log for details.
On the 32bit I can send the command
and it plays fine.
On the 64bit I send the command
and it errors.
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/D:".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvdsimple:///D:'. Check the log for details.
If I uninstall v2.01 and install v1.1.11 then both the 32bit and 64bit work fine with
. Any ideas on this? I discovered that 3 slash method worked because I opened VLC v2.01 on the 32bit system and looked at the command in the GUI under Open Disc when I chose to play without menus and it had
as the command.

You will get more messages if you open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) and click play button.

I tested on 2 more Windows 7 32bit PC's and both of them needed
to play the movie. Again with v1.1.11 using only 2 slashes on Windows 7 32bit worked fine. I will set verbosity to 2 and report back messages.

Does the dvdsimple:///D:\VIDEO_TS work with all machines?

I will try this in the next few days and report back. Did you have any luck replicating this?

I don't have DVD drive in my 64 bit Windows box so I cannot test it with that.

On VLC v1.1.11 on 64bit Windows 7 I get this
Code: Select all
Playback failure:
DVDRead could not open the disc "/D:\VIDEO_TS".
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'dvdsimple:///D:\VIDEO_TS'. Check the log for details.
On VLC v2.0.1 on 64bit Windows 7 dvdsimple:///D:\VIDEO_TS and dvdsimple:///D:\ plays fine.
It looks like I was reporting this wrong as I didn't realize that for some reason v1.1.11 was present on my machine at C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC, while v2.0.1 is present C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC.
So in short dvdsimple:///D:\ works fine on both 32bit and 64bit. My question is was the bug with v1.1.11 that allowed it to work on both machines with 2 slashes or is the bug with v2.0.1 requiring it to use 3 slashes? I ask because I hardcode this command into my software and don't want to change the code if format of the command is going to change again in upcoming releases.

The syntax changed in VLC 2.0.x to match some standard for URIs. So three slashes is correct one now.
