I know this has been brought up a few times before, but after trying some of the methods listed I am still having trouble. I went back and tried and older version, which did not work. I changed the output mode to Win32 waveOut Extension, which helped with most files. But I am still having trouble with avi files, especially ones where a great deal of audio is playing.

I tried enabling the graphic equalizer under Tools > Effects and Filers > Audio Effects, but that doesn't seem to work.

I am almost sure it isn't the videos themselves as when I play the audio itself in winamp there are no stutters at all.

I don't have the codecs some have been suggesting to delete so I know it is not that as well.

I have that problem with my Net Book - Insert a SD card or USB stick and it goes away. This problem was fixed but reappeared with 2.0.0 and is still there in 2.0.1 (see my other posts) It makes no sense and is not a problem on similar PCs.

Does the CPU usage of the system rise when you insert SD card or USB stick?

Not for me, and it does not seem to fix the issue either.

yes. got same issue here.
tried changing all audio settings, no change.
tried changing cache amounts no change.

hardware: hp 2133 netbook 1.2ghz 2gb xp

plugged in usb stick for 5 minutes, unplugged.
issue disappears?

earlier VLC versions did not have this problem.

JUST TO CONFIRM....IT IS NOT TECHNICALLY STUTTER.....stutter suggests the audio track stops, and then restarts at the same position.
This is portions of silence of approx 2 seconds in the audiotrack occurring approx every 30-60 seconds, the audiotrack is therefore NOT out of sync. I also have a regular pop sound, perhaps every half second....it comes and goes, may or may not be related...but wasn't there on earlier versions.

i will update if the usb "fix" is a permanent fix on the version. maybe Original Poster can upload sampl,e to youtube.

i am using v2.0.1 twoflower and i am viewing www.bloomberg.com/streams/video/LiveBTV200.asx

after the usb "fix" popping sound is reduced and 2 second silence events are gone...for now.

.m3u streams seem not to be affected by this issue

Does it help if you increase File caching?
Tools -> Preferences (set Show Settings to All) and Input / Codecs and increase File caching (ms) value to e.g. 5000 or 20000. Remember to press Save to save VLC settings and restart VLC after that to make sure changes are enabled. )

Also experiencing audio stutter. file cache didn't help much. Seems to get worse with time played. Stutter happens when pausing too.

I also experience this problem with 2.0.1. Resolved by fallback to 1.1.9.

confirmed here.
akso 900-1100 hours of streaming .asx causes a complete fail of application. just stops. both audio and playback.

i will try to roll back to 1.1.9 to see how it performs and feedback.

v2 is faulty. confirmed.
THANK GOD FOR "no automatic update" option in v1.1.9

V1.1.9 has no audio cutting out issue, and no complete application stall after long term streaming .asx

v1.1.9 IS GOOD

v2 has problems AVOID v2 Issues found with .asx stream
Anyone found issues with other formats? i have not found issues with other formats but not tested much.

v2 is a big FAIL for .asx streaming

I am also experiencing audio stutters. Using Win 7 on a Compaq notebook (4GB mem) and Ffdshow_Rev4436_20120422_Clsid

Yea im getting this issue aswell, its so annoying.

pretty beefy desktop too, 2500k gtx580, yadda yadda. Only just started since updating to 2.0.1 towflower
