the one and only app data .ini file - surely you have heard of it ?

The file that is created when you customize the controls preferences, it's exact name is vlc-qt-interface.ini.
VLC creates it in its app data folder, ...app data/roaning/vlc
the first time you go to tools - customize interface.... in the player menu
over time that had accumulated much mysterious code,a s posted a few post back.

all my issues wih slow 1st starts have gone away after removing and then recreating r that file on each PC

I wish there was only one :)

Can you share the non-working file?

here is the entire text of the non working file ..
(well technically, it works but it causes those slow downs we have been discussing. )
maybe the codec references near the end of this file are to blame ? - the new fail does not have any such entries...
please tell me if you can see what the issue was.

By a quick look, I don't see what could take so much time, tbh.

ok - well as removing that file has fixed things ,I suggest we all just move on - the thread is here for anyone else who had a similar mystifying issue.

there is stuff in that old file that I confess to not understanding but it was all put there by ( very? ) old versions of VLC.

To confirm, on 3 different PCs, with that old file removed, and with no use of SSD or ram drives, I am now seeing only 1-2 seconds start up time on 1st run after reboot
