Each Primary and Secondary will support 2 drives or 4 drives total.

Agreed. But for both the Primary and Secondary there are two drivers appearing in the device manager (2 called primary, and 2 called secondary). I find this odd as I seem to remember only ever seeing one for the primary, and one for the secondary. I'm going to kill one of them and see what happens :P

WoooHooo!!! Got the bastard. Ok. So it was definitely a DMA problem, and once I killed the one IDE driver, and restarted it was detected in DMA no problem, instead of the PIO it was stuck in before. If it ever drops down modes in the future I'll use those reg hacks to force it to stay in DMA.

DJ, thank you very much for your time and patience.

For anybody else who is having the stuttering problem I did, check to make sure that your drive isn't operating in PIO mode for some strange reason.
