I have version 3.0.16 and it is behaving in the same way. The issue hasn't been fixed...at least on my PC. I am running Windows 10 64 bit, everything is up to date. Oddly, instead of MP4 files causing VLC to crash, it is MKV files in my case. Even weirder, it is not all MKV files.
I have a multiple-season tv series that I am trying to re-watch.
I was watching season 6 which consisted of all AVI files. Worked fine.
Season 7 though, consists of MKV files. VLC closes every time I try to open them then the little VLC crash reporting box pops up. They won't play. However, the next season also consists of all MKV files and they DO play..
Fyi I had previously watched these same files a couple of years ago using an older version of VLC with no problems (I'm rewatching the series) so I know it's something to do with the newer version (s) of VLC.
All the problems (for me) started when that updating issue occurred.
Multiple instances started playing and all kinds of whacked out problems that were so bad that eventually I uninstalled the program completely, reinstalled an old version I still had in my download folder and then updated from there. Now this. What in the world is going on? I've used VLC for many years without issue (or only minor ones) now it's so bad I can't watch what I want to at all. HELP. I want my old VLC back!!
