I am having the exact same problem, DTS doesn't work via SPDIF passthrough. None of the newer versions work for me, the last working version being 2.0.8 (Win 64).

I also noticed that in 2.0.8, DTS is sometimes cuts out occasionally for like 1 second, I can notice it when there is constant sound or visually since my DTS capable receiver flashes with the text "dts 2/3" each time it happens, which you normally only see when it first starts decoding DTS. I'm not sure if this is related or not but my hardware is very good (high-end ASUS home theater sound card, new receiver, SSD, high-end CPU, etc). I also don't experience the same thing when playing the same content in a commercial player I also have. I prefer to use VLC due to other limitations of the commercial player and can't wait for this to all be fixed.

My SPDIF remains dead still, even with release 2.1.1. This issue has put my whole music/video server on DEAD. Any thoughts of when this will get fixed? Thanks.

This is a bit off topic, but the sound cutting out for a split second once in a while (2.0.8 and below) is something I noticed when I got my current graphics card (Nvidia). I did not have that problem with my previous one (AMD), so I think it's just something that happens with this HDMI audio hardware/driver setup. It doesn't happen often at all though so I'm not particularly bothered by it.

I have the same problem with DTS and SPDIF pass-through. It doesn't work with HDMI nor optical output. Is anyone working on that issue?

I also get the issue when using the optical out on my ASUS sound card. It happens with Dolby AC-3 content as well but more often with DTS. Maybe once in an hour of AC-3 content and 3-4 times in a hour of DTS content. This is over a wide variety of content from many different sources.

I have the same problem with 2.1, 2.1.1 and 2.2. This is an important features in VLC for Home Cinema and still not fixed. I use VLC 2.0.8 until it is fixed.

Same for me. I had 2.0.6 but it didn't work on Windows 8.1 so I upgraded to 2.1.1. After downgrading to 2.0.8 the surround sound works again.

Not working for me either. Gone back to 2.0.8 too. Anybody know what's going on? Has this been forced on VLC?

Same problem, back to 2.08...
Couldn,t find a solution for playing any DD or DTS file (without missing center and voice) with my SPDIF->Receiver connection....

Thanx

Confirmed SPDIF not working in 2.1.1. Upgraded to latest from 2.0.8 and TNG Season 5 Blu-ray no longer pass-through to my DTS surround. In fact it displays all sound devices in its audio/right click menu .

Reverted back to 2.0.8 and all is well.

And yet no explanation is given... just tumbleweeds rolling by and a lone coyote howling.

Quick thought, is it happening on other other platforms?

Relax Jem! I am sure the dev team is working hard on this. Cut them some slack and stick with 2.0.8!

I have been using VLC for many years now and this is the first time I have seen a bug of this caliber. Coding and debugging is not an easy thing to knock out! Have faith in the team!!

As far as other platforms, I will try this out on my Linux dual boot laptop.

Cheers m8.

No worries. But you know there is a lot of fuss over audio drm and I'm wondering if this has any legal aspect to it. I don't put it past the MPAA or it's affiliates. And I'd like an answer as to whether that's the case.

If it's a bug.... why are the system audio drivers showing up instead? Why has the audio menu changed some of it's other entries? Why has it occurred over several iterations?

I hope it's JUST a bug.

I'm having the same problem with 2.1.0 and 2.1.1 in Windows 7 32-bit. Hopefully this gets solved. I downgraded to 2.0.8 for a workaround.

I take that back. As far as I can tell it's still not fixed.... Unless it's only "Use SPDIF when available" that works.

Admittedly the machine I'm having to try it on is quite old (as the better HTPC is not available atm) but the audio menu does not seem to be changed back.

Furthermore, whereas vlc 2.0.8 can play at least 720p on this machine.... vlc 2.1.2 just crashes.
