Re: Blu-Ray Support

Postby EncryptedEggs » 02 Mar 2018 01:03

I've had a nightmare trying to play Blurays on my computer for some time. Found this thread just now and gave it a shot. I am able to play some discs perfectly. Unfortunately, many discs I tried don't play. Here is what I did:

  • Downloaded VLC 64 bit. (VLC Version 3.0.1)
  • Downloaded and ran aacs-updater-2.1.1.0-x64-FULL-setup.exe as per Bob K above, same paths and whatnot. I have the DLL files he mentioned.
  • Downloaded and placed the KEYS file in Bob K's location.
Here is the result: either it works perfectly, menus and all, or I get an error like this one: https://i.imgur.com/M5Eaa2k.png.

I've opened the keys file and searched it. I think that perhaps the key for my particular blu ray simply isn't there. I see various keys with this anime's title, but I assume they are from some other release, like the Japanese release, or maybe an older English release. So if I had the 2009 release of this show it would play, but my 2012 release of this show isn't in the cfg file.

Is there a way to find the key for a bluray that won't play? I also have PowerDVD and Leawo, both of which can play these discs. Is there some way to extract the key from those players? Or perhaps I can contact the people who maintain the whoknowsmyname and tell them of the shows of mine that do not work?

Snap, I thought I was home free. Regardless, any help much appreciated.

For the keys, maybe you could give a look at this project:

Yep, I read the previous page of our thread and saw you folks mentioning FindVUK. Sounds fascinating and I'll give it a shot.

That said, I'm wondering if perhaps the keys are already in my .cfg file and the problem is something else. So here's the disc itself as seen in VLC: https://i.imgur.com/oaZRAow.png. Title is "Toradora! Disc 1". This is from a four disc Bluray set. Here are some relevant looking entries in the keys file:

Code: Select all

[stuff] = Toradora! Disc 1 (Toradora! Disc 1) | V | [stuff] ; MKBv47/FindVUK 1.00 [stuff] = Toradora! Disc 2 (Toradora! Disc 2) | V | [stuff] ; MKBv47/FindVUK 1.00 [stuff] = Toradora! Disc 3 (Toradora! Disc 3) | V | [stuff] ; MKBv47/FindVUK 1.00 [stuff] = Toradora! Disc 4 (Toradora! Disc 4) | V | [stuff] ; MKBv47/FindVUK 1.00

To me me that looks pretty similar. So if those keys are in fact supposed to be for this set, then they are not working. Again, here is the error: https://i.imgur.com/M5Eaa2k.png. At least one other Bluray does work.

I guess I'll just have to try FindVUK myself and see what VUKs it gives me.

Ok, making progress. Here's what happened. Passkey did allow VLC to play that disc! Very nice. Snagged FindVUK version 1.09 to get the VUK and not need Passkey. Turns out my DVDFab Passkey version (9230) was too new. I downgraded to 8285.I now got past that block. However, FindVUK appeared to work correctly only to a certain point. FindVUK got to this point: https://i.imgur.com/tWtM1OS.png. Then it just stops and does nothing. Here's the FindVUK log: https://pastebin.com/KL0zuKs4. So it saw that Fab had gotten the VUK, then FindVUK makes a dump, but then it doesn't get the VUK from the dump or any later steps.

I'm posting this here because I created a doom9 account to ask the creator for help but I have to wait five days to post! I can't wait to get in contact and see what's up. I'm so close to kissing PowerDVD goodbye!

Okay, now I can play all but one of my Blurays.

Downgraded to VUK 1.08. That got me past what I described above. I got VUKs for each disc! For a while I was getting "can't play: Region A only" screens, which was baffling to me until I discovered the Region setting in VLC. Now all the discs play and with menus.

With one exception. VLC simply shows this screen (http://i.imgur.com/FAl96qm.jpg) and stops. It's a Region A disc. VLC is set to Region A (http://i.imgur.com/yvldeTd.jpg). For that disc, I have the VUK that FindVUK got from DVDFab Passkey and it appears to be legit. To confirm, I have also played the disc just using DVDFab running with VLC. I have played the disc in PowerDVD and it's fine. In Leawo, interestingly enough, it actually does show the "can't play: only for USA and Canada" screen...but then it goes on to play anyway, albeit with no menu.

But yeah, the disc is Region A, VLC is set to Region A, and I have the VUK. For some reason I'm told "can't play: only for USA and Canada."

But hey, this is progress from thinking it was impossible, to playing a few, to inching forward and now can play all but one. It's been an enjoyable week of problem solving. Some other time I think I'll post somewhere about it again and hopefully get into that disc finally. There must be a log file or some such that can tell us what's going on here.

Update on that disc: I un-checked menus right here (http://i.imgur.com/yvldeTd.jpg) and now that disc plays and no longer shows this error: http://i.imgur.com/FAl96qm.jpg. Weird? But I'll take it. Though I would like to know why that made the difference. So I guess this means VLC now plays all my Blurays.

Adding to this chain-post on VLC Bluray this weekened. I got Daredevil season 1 from the Library, but instead of watching Daredevil, I spent that time trying to watch Daredevil and writing this post!
While troubleshooting the settings to get VLC to play commercial Bluray disks on my dino-Lenovo [1], I upgraded from VLC 2.2.4 to VLC 2.2.6 Umbrella. Now I get the dreaded,`VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'`

From the top,

1) Followed instructions here to enable Bluray support.

The disk would play but it was unwatchable, laggy, and would freeze.

I followed these tips on the web:
- Input/Codecs > Caching Value --> increase the buffer time
- Preferred video resolution: Standard
- GPU accelerated decoding", enable

Nothing seemed to work, so I updated VLC--now I have a worser error?

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'. Check the log for details.[/code]

2) Following instructions in this massively long post ,

2.1) Installed the aacs library in Roaming:
`C:\Users\Rooty\AppData\Roaming\aacs`

2.2) I ran the updater, `aacs-updater-2.1.1.0-x64-FULL-setup.exe` and installed the files here:
`C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC`

2.3) User BobK says to reinstall the AACS keys (from #1). Ok.

2.4) user P4NTS says, "Copy the 32bit libaacs.dll to C:\Windows\System32 (or the 64bit DLL if you're running 64 bit Windows)"

Should I downgrade to 2.2.4?
Anything I'm missing from the checklist?

NEXT) I'm going to look into the Lua error listed below.

NOTES:
[1]: That's dinosaur Lenovo, haha.
Lenovo W500 2.5G 4G RAM, 64-bit Windows Vista SP2;
HDD 15.7G free of 63G partition
This is dual-boot with Linux, and Windows partition was just for a few Win apps.
Now it's collecting dust, but it has a great screen and video card.
It would be Dino! to get this box to play Bluray.

Perhaps, you can try this:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 20#p467308
Put the files installed with AACS Updater (libaacs.dll, libbdplus.dll, libgcrypt-20.dll, libgpg-error6-0.dll) in the VLC installation folder.

Updated keys here:

I've downgraded to VLC 2.2.4. This restored playback and I don't get the Error, `VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'`
However, playback remains unwatchable.

I updated to the noted AACS files, and this did not improve playback.

I toyed with the playback settings. I admit don't really know much about video playback, so I don't know that any of these are even related to DVD/Bluray playback:

Input Codecs > Video > ffmpeg audo/video decoder
- skip the loop filter H264 decoding = ALL
- Hardware decoding= Automatic
- Allow Speed Tricks, check

Input Codecs
- Preferred video resolution: tried Standard and Very low
- disk caching = 5000ms

Input Codecs > Video
- Deinterlace = Automatic

Nevertheless, none of these options results in a change to the playback. Only, video resolution, very low is noticeably bad. (>_<)

The procedure works also with the latest version (at least with me). I still use VLC 2.2.4 because VLC 3.0.2 has some things that still annoy me. (I opened a topic, and some bugs were fixed in the latest version)

The procedure works to play blu-rays, so that you don't get the error "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray", so, if blu-rays don't play smooth, perhaps it's hardware problem (too old?). :/

There are other programs (like Leawo Blu-ray Player, which is free, but chinese) that you could try to see if that's really the problem ...but they are not as customizable as VLC.

Re: Blu-Ray Support Windows 10 LG Player

Postby sfarris » 06 May 2018 02:52

Respectfully, first time post, so please be kind. I am attempting to use VLC in Windows 10 64 bit *unregistered OS*. Play is a LG 16 WH 40N blu-ray/dvd player. I installed VLC 64 bit for windows. I downloaded from http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ the latest version of KEYDB.cfg, and the 64 bit version of libaacs.dll. I have installed VLC in a non-traditional location, E:\Projects\ThirdParty\VLC. I put the libaacs.dll in this location. I upt the KEYDB.cfg in the location C:\Users\sfarris\AppData\Roaming\aacs . When I insert a blu-ray into the player and it attempts to auto run from the vlc start, I still get the following error:
Blu-ray error:
This Blu-ray Disc needs a library for BD+ decoding, and your system does not have it.
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:\'. Check the log for details.

obviously the BD+ decoding failure is due to something not being found from these additional plugins. However, I do not know what I have done in error?
I *also* tried the aacs updater to see if installing it might help to no avail.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might have an idea where I went astray, or as to what I am missing as not seen?

^ Do you have the .dll that I've highlighted in this picture http://i.imgur.com/iHrFRlK.jpg? I assume that's what can do the BD+ decoding. I don't know if that came with my VLC installation or not. It might have been added when I installed the AACS Updater.

Nevermind, I got that disc working. I already have the libbdplus dll in my VLC folder. I downloaded the source of libbdplus from here: https://www.videolan.org/developers/libbdplus.html. I looked into the read me file and saw this:

Code: Select all

Configuration directory (vm0) is searched from following places: Linux (xdg specification): /etc/xdg/bdplus/ $HOME/.config/bdplus/ Windows: %APPDATA%/bdplus/
I recognized the vm0 folder, but not from that location. I saw that I had a vm0 folder in %APPDATA%/aacs, so I simply created the bdplus folder and copied the vm0 folder to it. Now the disc plays. I honestly don't know when I got that vm0 folder in the original location. Not sure where it came from.

Hi, what exe? If you are talking about AACS Updater, the project is dead and it won't update the keys, that's why it won't connect.
You must put the files libaacs.dll, libbdplus.dll, libgcrypt-20.dll, libgpg-error6-0.dll installed with it in the VLC folder.
An updated version of libaacs.dll is from the link above (beware if you have VLC 32 bit or 64 bit). From the same link, you get the most updated KEYDB.cfg.
As far as I'm concerned, I put KEYDB.cfg in C:\Users\My Username\AppData\Roaming\AACS and I can open blu-rays with VLC.

You get those files when install AACS Updater. If I well remember, when you install it, it asks where to install them. They must go all in the VLC installation folder.
