I cant stream over the internet.
I can set up a stream over the intranet easily.
I have tried hosting using via http, my dnsname:1234.
I then use a computer on a different network and try to access that dnsname:1234 via vlc (open network stream) and it says it can not access it.
I have opened a firewall hole on my router to all 1234 to go to my "server pc".
It always says can not access that address.
Help!

Have you tried to call the stream locally through a second instance of VLC on the same machine.
Also VLC requires transcoding for streaming as it likes to have control of the stream. So another method is separate transcoding from streaming by making a local transcode to file and check the file. Messages are very helpful in all these processes including checking the source file for problems.
You could also try posting the entire command line for the server here.

That's https://. I don't think VLC supports this and I would suspect it would be quite slow and somehow I would doubt applicable to media files. Secure authorization or payments generally direct you to an open line for streaming or downloading.
Perhaps some one here would suggest some layered protocols for you using the live55 libraries. I hope I'm saying this right because I have never tried it.

I do not want to encrypt the media stream, I only want to some sort
of protection on the web interface for VLC.
The web interface has lots of options, that I do not want availalbe to the public, but to a select 1, me. haha
I know VLC supports it, because I see it on the options.. I just dont really know how to password protect the web interface.
Do you know how to do that ?
