Subtitle weirdness with VLC 0.8.5

Hello there.

Let me start by saying I used search, but could not find a topic to match my current problem. I reacently watched couple old movies with several different subtitle formats. Now back in the day I was using BSplayer and I remember that all movies and subtitles worked fine.

So my problem with VLC 0.8.5 Windows is following: All the other subtitle formats execpt .srt seem to go horribly out of sync. I have tried to correct this with cntl-h , j but no help.

Here are some examples from my subtitle files if they help:

.sub (don´t work. No .idx file)

Iam no subtitle expert, but I suspect in the case of .sub its the missing .idx file that causes sync issues. Same can be applied to .txt too I guess?

You only use .idx with image based vobsub format (sub+idx)
and if your text based .sub files have decimal FPS (like 23.976), they don't work

hopefully this is fixed on next version. Mean while you can convert sub -> srt

Yes all my movies are NTSC FPS format, so quess that answers it. I try to convert my subtitle files with vobsub 2.23, hopefully they work better in .srt format.

Subtitles started working after I converted them all to .srt format. Thanks for the tip!

VLC supports some 9 different Subtitle formats. In my tests the only one causing problems time wise was .sub (not vobsub (.idx+.sub)).

For me, entering the FPS in preferences worked. But did not work when I entered the settings in the options menu when calling the video from within VLC. Also a rather confusing issue.
