subtitle problem

Postby ra » 20 Sep 2006 10:34

Hi!
I have the strangest problem with subtitles! I´ve loaded a movie and a subtitle, but the subtitle shows only every 5 minutes or so and then just one line!
Can anyboy help me with this?! I´ve tried to uninstall and install VLC again, but theres no difference.

Thx!
Ra

Yep.
Search the forum first !

Well, So the problem might be an encoding problem. Choose the right encoding for your language and it should fix your problem.

Ok. But where do I set this? And if it´s set to "default", and it has worked before - how come it doesn´t work now?

It was changed on 0.8.5 version and problem is only on non american text based subtitles (vobsub subtitles and english subtitles work fine).

Subtitles text encoding can also be found on Settings -> Preferences -> Input/Codes -> Other Codecs -> Subtitles

*I have the same problem*

So it means that everytime it doesn't work, I simply choose "ISO-8859-1" in Subtitles text encoding, isn't it? Or do I have to choose a specific type of enconding depending on the subtitles? And how do I find the enconding for each subtitle?

Once you find a text encoding method that works well for you enter it in Preferences, Input / Codecs, Other codecs, Subtitles then press Save and restart VLC.

If you have a specialized language like Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese or Japanese changing the font to a Unicode font will be helpful. :)
