Weird desktop properties + screensaver problem

Postby Supraboy » 20 Aug 2006 23:18

This is weird mainly because it was all working fine until just today. Whenever I open VLC and play a file, my screensaver wait time changes to 1 minute. When i close VLC, it returns back to 10 minutes (which is what it's set at normally). Furthermore, while i'm watching the file, if i minimize, I can see spots and blotches where the color from the video seems to have "filtered" onto the background. (The spots are just basically flashing as the file plays, there's no actual video or anything on my background.)

Again, this is weird because it only started happening today. Everything was working fine yesterday and I had not changed any settings on my computer.

I would appreciate it if anybody could help

Try to reset your video card to its defaults for Color, Direct3D, OpenGL and Overlay.

I was using VLC a lot yesterday (crashed it a few times) and today I noticed my screen saver timeout was set to 1 minute, much less than it should have been.

With SP 2 for XP there were some major revisions in this area. For me it's the power saving functions are not working, but the screen saver changing is normal as this is part of the hold off function.

Using a battery backup does change some of the windows drivers in this area and this may be why. In SP 1 for XP it was not holding for allot of programs and was not easily reset so I guess this is the new and improved version. Many Mfg were issuing hacks to fix it. I think I saw three for my machine before Microsoft responded.
