Messages window unwanted opening

Postby lordzoster » 17 Aug 2006 20:23

Hallo
i'm running VLC on a WXPP with a Matrox p650 dual-dvi (setted up in stretched mode, so i have a 2560x1024 desktop).
When i open VLC or choose to open a video file with it, sometimes it opens up the Message window in full screen mode before opening the player, that remains hidden below the Message.
I have this issue since 2003 or 2004: i regularly updated the player, the video adapter drivers and the OS but with no changes. I reinstallled the OS too, during this years.
Nor i can see any particular difference between those times that the player (rarely) opens up regularly and when the Message window opens.
I think it is related to the presence of the dual head setup, but VLC is the only program that complains about it :)
Any idea?
thanks

I've just been browsing the boards looking to see if anyone has this problem. VLC has always worked fine until this weekend when I installed an old Matrox G550 dual head graphics card for a dual monitor setup under windows xp sp2. I also installed Pivot Pro 8.0 in order to run one of the monitors in portrait mode.

Since then I have exactly the same problem of the messages window opening in full screen mode when I start vlc. The close button doesnt work, nor will it close if I click the X button in the top right hand corner. All I can do is minimise it.

If I go into the view menu and select messages window TWICE on the second time the messages window disappears.

I just upgraded to 0.8.6a and the problem still exists.

Anyone know of a fix to disable the messages window?

This is a video driver issue. More than likely the video card is old enough to not be 100% DirectX 9c compatible. Microsoft recommended updating your audio and video drivers with DirectX 9c and VLC is one of the few programs that forces this issue starting with version 0.8.4.

Possibly, but the original single headed card I had in the system was a Geforce2 Ti. I think the Geforce2 series were only Directx 7 and that worked fine.

Probably would have worked fine with anything prior to VLC 0.8.4.
