Windows context menus

When I installed VLC, I enabled VLC options in my Windows context menus but it's making my context menus annoyingly large. How do I disalbe them? I have tried re-installing and it doesn't work.

Uninstalling and reinstalling, not choosing the context option is what has worked for most everyone asking. What version of VLC?

When I try to reinstall, the option is not given again.
Version 0.8.4a

I haven't heard this one before!

Uninstall VLC using the add/remove programs in your Control Panel

Then open regedit and search VLC.EXE remove all instances.

On my Win98 PC, a right click on the recycle bin shows "play with VLC media player" in the menu, but A right click on A MP3 file or a wmv file with is associated with VLC does not show that item in their context menu.
Is this a bug? or how do i fix it?
VLC version is 0.8.4a

Context menu option is there (screen#3 during setup)



Opppss... guys Context menus "still" appear under the recycle bin :( .




File associations... No problem! Make sure you set these up during installation of VLC, otherwise files will not be associated. ;)

I had installed VLC with context menus checked but just to be sure, I uninstalled and removed all VLC.exe entries from the registry and then reinstalled. Makins sure that context menus was checked. And I still have the same problem in that. there are no context menu entries for VLC for files that VLC should play. but they are in the context menu for the Recycle bin. I think there is a bug!

just installed 0.8.6 and there is still no context menu item for VLC. But it is no longer listed in the context menu for recycle bin.
And yes context menu was checked on the install.

The context thingy isn't for files per say. It's for directories.

With this in mind you either love it or hate it. I fall into the hate category.

You are correct DJ. Thanks for the info, it does work for the folder and plays the entire folder. Don't see why it couldn't be set up to play just a file tho.

Ya! I would prefer to grab a group of files to build a playlist, but there are other options that govern this in Preferences. You can grab a group of files within VLC though.

Yeah count me in the boat as the others. Often I want to select a group of files and add them all to the playlist in one shot.

At first I thought it was a bug that no context menus were appearing when I right-clicked on VLC-handled files, but then I found this thread.

Ah well, I guess I'll wait another year and try vlc again then. Back to WMP for my video needs

My how the years do go by! It seems that WMP 11 final not only doesn't work right within itself (not real obvious at first) but also interferes with every other player (considerably more obvious). Good luck!

Yeah, that is why I am still using WMP 9

All my videos play fine, context menus work, and hotkeys work. The interface doesn't look nice, and has some annoying behavior (which is why I install vlc and other players every so often to see if they have gotten better), but it is still the player to beat (sad, but true).
