Quicktime playing from Apple trailers web site

Postby Quicktime playing problme » 25 Apr 2006 11:00

I am using VLC for the first time.

Its impressive, but am having a problem playing apple quicktime trailers.
I am opening them as a Network Stream and choosng the http checkbox.

The standard green intro screen starts playing, and the network is running at full tilt, BUT it NEVER gets past the green screen into the actual trailer footage.

WEIRD !!

Heres the streams i have tried it with:
http://movies.apple.com/movies/newline/ ... h.i320.mov
http://images.apple.com/movies/wb/posei ... _h.320.mov

i have tried the 0.8.4 and the latest 0.8.4a versions for Windows.

All i can think of is some strange params that the EMBED tag passes to the quicktime player in the browser, that VLC also needs.

Regards

Gerard

IPOD version

Postby gedw99 » 25 Apr 2006 11:25

Hi,

i think i have found the problem.

If i download the IPOD version then if players perfectly in VLC>

The trailers and HD EMBED refs in the web page must point to a stub or container, rather than the actual movie i am trying to play.

If anyones knows how to reverse egnineer what the real Quicktime path si that woudl be ace.
FOr example this is as far as i get.
Go to: http://www.apple.com/trailers/disney/me ... insons/hd/
View the page info and find the embedded mov taggs.
Try to play in VLC this: http://movies.apple.com/trailers/images ... 2_480p.mov

Getting closer,

Hvae founda stream that plays in the quicktime client installed, and followed the excellent directions in the VLC wiki relating to this.

http://wiki.videolan.org/index.php/Comm ... .28.mov.29

Now, however the same thing happens in that it starts to play the green standard splash screen, but the movie never starts.
The message output form the screen is this. (this is a tiny sample of it).

The quicktime trailers include a link stub to open another quicktime stream.
Very smart!.

Anyway, VLC DOES NOT SUPPORT THIS currently.

Just let me pop in here and second the request for VLC to be able to play Apple's movie trailers in embedded fashion like Apple's Quicktime player. Quicktime works decently I guess but it's such a hassle to have to weed out all the bloat each time you install it. It would be much better to use VLC for this ;-).
