Capture red & blue

Postby jopie » 04 Mar 2006 08:18

Hi!

Why is it when I capture via my PCTV card using vlc 0.8.4a the following happens:
only display: all colors are normal;
display and access=file: red and blue colors swap (blue faces and red jeans!) green is OK;
no display and only acces=file: red and blue swap (blue faces and red jeans!) green is OK.

If I use 0.7.0 or 0.7.1 there is no problem!

I simply use the GUI in all cases:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=1024,scale=1,acodec=mpga,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=display,dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="G:\atest.mpg"}}

Could someone help me out with this?

Many thanks in advance! :)

I'm having trouble with your terminology. I seem to get the the Capture device is working normally, the Snapshot or Transcodeing isn't???

I would try doing the same thing using a video as the source to see if the problem is the capture device. Preferably something you haven't made using your capture device.

Thanks for the quick reply!
The capture card is working well. Using for instance Virtual dub doesn't give me any problems.
To be more precise: if I capture a video from the VCR and I do nothing else than sending it to the PC-screen, everything is alright.
But......... as soon as I try to keep the captured video in a file, the red and blue colors swap. I can see this on the screen while capturing as well as later on as I watch what has been captured in the ts- or mpg-file.
I hope I made myself more clear now :)

So you can see the color swap on screen when you monitor the trasnscode and or play it back? But it's OK if you don't transcode? :shock:

Can you post the setup for the capture device please.
I didn't see anything unusual about your transcode.

Have you tried doing the same thing using a video as the source to see if the problem is the capture device? Preferably something you haven't made using your capture device.

Yet you say it's alright in Virtualdub. I would check the test sample too. The one I just asked you to make.

Hello DJ.

I really appreciate your effort to help me out. :D

Pinnacle PCTV Capture, video-composite

I did. With 0.7.1 I get a perfect MPG-file and a good picture on the screen.
With 0.8.4a a black(!) MPG-file and no image on the screen!

Most people have had to work with there capture device to get it setup so that it works correctly with VLC. Rather than do this every time VLC is launched or set the preferences section of VLC they have created a playlist .m3u file that contains the setup.

Example of the plalist.m3u file:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:0,22 - SETUP - 22
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-vdev=VideoMate BDA Analog Capture
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-adev=SoundMAX Digital Audio
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-size=720x576
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-caching=200
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-chroma=
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-fps=25.000000
#EXTVLCOPT:no-dshow-config
#EXTVLCOPT:no-dshow-tuner
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-tuner-channel=22
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-tuner-country=61
#EXTVLCOPT:dshow-tuner-input=2

There is no list of capture devices to draw on to show you what is right or wrong for your device. It appears as though you have never setup your device and it just kinda sorta works but now you are experiencing problems because you never setup your device.

But beside not answering this question you are still not answering my first two questions as I was assuming here. In answer to my third question you told me the make of your video card and that was not what I asked for. You avoided my fourth question by telling me the versions you have tried which again was not what I asked for. So it makes it imposable for me to make any recommendations.

Perhaps it would be best to stay with the older version of VLC as this seems to work for you!

Thank you very much for taking the time to help me.
Though I did not always understand what you meant in your questions due to my too little knowledge of your language, you surely helped me a lot. I will be able now to get vlc 0.8.4a to work on my system! I will let you know as soon as that happens.

Thanks again. :D

I would need the same information from you as I needed from the user who started this post.

1. Try to transcode a video NOT made with your capture device. Does this work normally for you?

2. Post the setup for your Capture device here.

3. Lets NOT deal with streaming. When a problem exists work with transcoding first. Can you see the color swap on screen when you monitor the trasnscode and or play it back?

4. Is the capture device normal if you don't transcode?
