How to edit an .avi file (film)

hello

from a 2 hours .avi film, i'd like to keep a 5 minutes scene
on the net i found how to make it
but
there is never sound, only image

You can use the Record button but VLC is not an editor. You'd better use a dedicated video editor tool such as AviDemux:

if VLC is not able to make such a thing correctly, VLC should not propose such features at all, shouldn't it?
