VLC Plays System Sound When Loading Video File

Postby tehsuparhackr » 07 Sep 2024 22:33

I have zero idea why, but each and every time I load a file from Explorer that loads with VLC, it makes a sound from Windows.

It used to not do this, and no I don't use the context menu feature of VLC, I double click a file to load it.

Is there a setting that can disable this?

AFAIK VLC doesn't do that, you may have some kind of Windows notification enabled, perhaps because of the popup on track change.

Try this:
Menu Tools -> Preferences (Show settings = All) -> Interface -> Main interfaces -> Qt -> Show notification popup on track change
Turn if off, save then exit and restart VLC.

The problem still happens. I "fixed it" by just setting the sound that would play (Default Beep) to silent in Window's system settings. It's still odd how it decides to play that sound only when loading video and audio files in VLC and Windows Media Player, never with images.

There is no preference in VLC for doing that, it's really a Windows setting.
