How to increase volume when converting video

I am using VLC 3.0.2 Vetinari in Windows 10 and when I convert video the volume is much lower on the converted video then it was on the original. Does anyone know how to increase the volume when converting video? Thanks for any help!

Hello,

you have to modify the encoder profile for that.
In the convert menu, just click on the wrench icon next to the profile name, and in the audio menu, enable the "gain" filter (which can be modified in the VLC preferences).
Do not forget to save the profile by setting a new name for your profile.

Yeah, good luck figuring out where and how to modify this in the preferences. It sure isn't with "Always reset audio start level." Maybe "Normalize volume?" Everyone loves trial-and-error, don't they?
UPDATE: I believe that I've tried every combination of audio settings, including "Output module," "Normalize volume" and "Replay gain mode." WAV from DTSHD is horribly overamped and clipped no matter what I try.
UPDATE 2: I think I finally found it! I needed to open the advanced settings and set the "gain control filter" value. I have no idea how or why this is different from "Normalize volume to," but it is.
