vlc in background while gaming

Hi,
I want to listen to music while playing games but when i launch a game vlc closes. When I close the game vlc opens back up but the play list is gone. The game I am playing is Hearthstone so it is not taking a lot of resources. Anyone have a solution for this?

VLC does not close by itself. Either it crashes (which should exhibit at least some kind of error messages) or something forces it to close.

Ok, maybe I mis-spoke. Maybe is just goes to the background. As soon as I open a game, it disappears from the task bar and the music stops. When I close the game it re-appears in the task bar but the playlist is cleared and the music does not continue. I have seen others post about this problem and the only solution they had was to start vlc after starting the game. I was hoping there was a better solution.

VLC does not erase the playlist when it goes in the background, only when it is made to quit.

For me, it is happening as stated. When I open a game, the music stops and the player disappears from the task bar. When I close the game VLC re-appears in the task bar but there is nothing in the playlist and the music does not continue. I see that you are running linux, do you have access to a windows machine to test this, or do you know anyone that can test this? I have reinstalled VLC, I have the most recent version but it still is happening. I have loved and used VLC for over 10 years and hope that there is a solution for what is happening. It happens with all Blizzard games. I have not tried other games yet, but I will and I will report back.

Something is making VLC exit and then restarts it, presumably the game engine or some drivers.
