Will VLC Work on a Remote Desktop Session Host (Terminal Server)

Postby CC_Tech » 23 Jul 2024 20:32

We have a Windows Server 2016 Remote Desktop Session Host and need to be able to play some video files. The built-in Windows Media Player won't show video for .MOV files (plays audio only), and I'm wondering if VLC will work in a Terminal Server environment? We aren't using Citrix, but I assume if it works on that, it will work for a Terminal Server too.

Thanks

Yes but it might use a lot of CPU and a lot bandwidth. Generally speaking playing videos over remote desktop is a terrible idea.

Thanks Remi! I do agree that videos over remote desktop is not the best idea, but this should only have occasional usage. Worth a try anyways.
