Downsampling auido.

Postby 4k3or3et » 09 Jun 2024 23:48

Hi All,

is there any way of downsampling audio to DTS 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 from Dolby Atmos that VLC can do automatically?

I know I would loose some effects but my audio setup can decode up to DTS HD MA 7.1 or DD 5.1. I am using Logitech Z906 setup connect to TV via optical.

I mean something like it is done on XBOX that you set up your audio in the setting selecting DTS 5.1 or DD 5.1 and even if a game is in Dolby Atmos the audio is downsampled somehow and played using older DTS or DD.

Did anyone achieve something like this in VLC?

Do you really mean downsampling ?

You are right. It would not be downsampling.

Downmix, downgrade, convert to older format, Play in older system I rather meant.

I'm not sure it can be done on the fly, in real time.

I did some test on XBOX, using VLC UWP app from Microsoft Store.

VLC UWP does exactly what I wanted. I have tested it with some test files which you can find under the link:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... OS2vEX7N4b

For example there is test video file with Atmos in configuration 7.1.4. So what VLC UWP app does it plays rear channel on my surround speakers. Front ceiling channel on my front speaker and Rear ceiling channel on my surround speakers. So it downgrades the Atmos 7.1.4 to standard 5.1 system.

Of course this way you loose object positioning effects etc. but you can still enjoy surround sound on older systems which does not support Dolby Atmos.

Did anyone achieve something like this on VLC x64 version?

Reset the preferences and cache (the manual way) and try again:
