Audio cuts out when screen turns off

Good morning. I have noticed a strange problem. I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. I use Windows 10. It happens that when I am listening to mp3 and my laptop screen turns off, after 5 minutes of inactivity, the audio starts to cut out, small pauses... not so frequent, I would say two or three per minute. This does not happen when I am listening to mp4, videos, there the audio remains normal. Any idea what it could be?

Now, in that drop-down menu, the Automatic option is selected and there are 6 options available, at least in my case. Do I just go testing one by one? Won't there be catastrophic consequences? Try with DirectX Audio Output.
Don't forget to click on the Save button, then exit and restart VLC for the change to take effect.

Let's see... I'll try to explain myself well. Yesterday I listened to an audio that did not present any problem. There were no annoying pauses. I heard it perfectly well. I thought VLC had been updated or something. Then I played another audio (more like a playlist of several mp3s) and the problems started. So I tried as you suggested, switching to direct X and the problem went away. I was happy, of course, and decided to try another audio... and the same problem appeared. Looks like you have the scaletempo filter active, so maybe you're not playing music at x1 speed. Check the speed counter at the bottom right of the VLC window, it should display 1.00x .

Looks like you have fiddled a lot with the settings so in case of any doubt just reset the preferences like I explained in my previous post. Easier and faster.
