Bug: VLC shows bad length of MP4 video and freezes after end

Postby thoste » 12 Feb 2024 09:22

Have a look at the MP4 file from Download-Link below (no, its not spam):

https://filedoge.com/download/6dd5484d7 ... 5f95bdcb89

I put it into *.zip archive to be sure that the file server does not change anything.
This (extracted) video should have a total length of ~56 seconds.

When I start playing it with VLC v3.0.20 on Windows 10 the right side of VLC progress slider shows a total length of 1min28sec

This is a bug.

Even worse: After 56 seconds the VLC windows freezes on Windows 10

Other video players like Media Player Classic or mpv.net play the same video file correctly.

Pls fix this

Looks like this file has many problems and is somehow truncated.
VLC and other players are showing a 1min 27s length but the playback stops at 55s. The audio cuts out at 30s.
MediaInfo also reports errors:

Code: Select all

Duration : 30 s 40 ms Source duration : 56 s 520 ms ... Format : AAC LC Errors : Missing ID_END

Long story short: this file is broken.

Indeed, you can check this capture from mp4box.js:

Even though the video track presents a duration of 56s, the first audio track doesn't go further than 30s.

But the second audio track is supposed to start at 1:01 and continue for 26 seconds more, probably explaining why VLC reports this duration.
