I updated from vers. 3.0.18 to 3.0.19 and my H.264 videos fail to play. The program loads and recognizes these videos including showing the duration, but does not begin playing and merely exits or freezes when I click play. (Some .avi videos play ok.) I have therefore downgraded back to 3.0.18 which at least plays H.264 reliably though it chokes on H.265. My PC runs Windows 10.

You can try downloading/updating to beta version, where the error is fixed

I am not experiencing the error of VLC crashing or closing by itself when playing a video in MP4 AVC H.264 or x.264

If you wish to remain on the current version of VLC, which is 3.0.19, you can go to > Tools > Preferences > Input/Encoders > Hardware Accelerated Decoding > Disable

But in the beta versions the error has already been corrected, where you can play MP4 H.264 AVC videos normally, without having to change the Hardware Accelerated Decoding information.

If you want to update to the beta version, simply uninstall the current version and install these. For Windows 32 Bits: https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1018-0222/

For Windows 64 Bit: https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1018-0225/
