The nightly with the fix is the one from 2023-10-16, not from 2023-10-15: https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1016-0220/

@robUx4

I do appreciate that you are trying to be helpful, but just pointing at a list of seven files isn't particularly useful.

do I have to download all of those files, or just one or other of the zip files?

and, having downloaded it or they or them, how would I then install this version so that it overwrites the version I currently have?

these might seem like obvious things to you, but I make shoes for a living, computers are not my thing.

thank you,

Martin

For me was the following solution successful: Deinstallation of VLC 64 bit, installation of the VLC 32 bit 3.0.19 version, changing the automatic video output to Direct3D9. :D

Yeah this one worked for me. I uninstalled the 3.0.19 one and removed cache and settings.
Downloaded the exe from that link (second from top), and installed it. Runs fine.
Thanks.

Sutor, ne ultra crepidam.

This is the direct link to the file that worked for me: https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 31a5cc.exe

Download and install the .EXE file.

Just run the installer, double click on the .EXE file.

Looks like it's a problem with Direct3D11 on AMD graphics cards. The VLC team is aware about this issue so we just have to wait for a fix.
Meanwhile, you can try this nightly build which should fix the issue, please report back if it works for you or not:
https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1015-0225/

Other workarounds are to use another video output module than D3D11 or to roll back to a previous version of VLC.

Hello Lotesdelere
Tested here exactly as you said : same problem with this nigthlies (20231015-0225)

The nightly with the fix is the one from 2023-10-16, not from 2023-10-15: https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1016-0220/

Tested here with this new nightlies of 2023-10-16, and YES it works this time !

So the fix of the 20231016-0220 is working for me, for MKV, MP4, FLV !

Unfortunately, I had the same experience with 3.0.19 and the program would immediately crash. So, I uninstalled the latest version and reinstalled 3.0.17.4. I'll review the forum before upgrading.

Lotesdelere

after downloading the .EXE file I noticed in my download folder I still had the folder for version 3.0.18, so I re-installed that, because, you know, that just works.

I would also like to say that I have been using VLC for several years now, I am tempted to guess ten years but it might not actually be that long, and this is the first time I've had what might be called a "problem." so you must be doing something right. thank you.

but it is also true that every time I get prompted to install the latest update I click yes, and I have never noticed a spot of difference in any of them.

take care,

Martin

Bonjour VLC,

Pour commencer, est-ce que VLC est genré ?

Car je suis fluide comme les vidéos ?
C’est une plaisanteriiiiiiiiie !!!!

In English of course, the language of those who burned Joan of Arc and those who had a President as Orange as the Cone.

My VLC, too, crashes on opening.
- W10 21h2 IoT LTSC x64
- AMD (ATI) FirePro M5950 Mobility Pro Graphics
- Intel Core i7 2720QM clocked at 2.20 GHz
- DirectX 12
- Ram 16 GB

And this one worked : vlc-3.0.19-win64-e031a5cc
https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 31a5cc.exe

Thank you for all your diligence.

Seems like the same thing happens over and over. I've lost count of how many updates that I've ended up having to uninstall. I've finally given up on any usable update. I have once again installed an old version and I'm just not going to update anymore if I can help it. I realize some of the reasons why this isn't a good idea. However, what choice do I have if I want a version of VLC that actually works? I'm not a developer. I've already spent a considerable amount of time on numerous occasions, tweaking VLC to make it work, by painfully reading instructions and making step by step changes.
I know that sounds ungrateful since this doesn't cost anything it's just...
Why roll out updates if they don't work? I don't understand.
So frustrating. I'm a 57 year old grandma who just wants to watch a movie LOL. My son turned me onto VLC years ago and there are so MANY WONDERFUL things about it... when it works. I just wish it would. Ok rant done. I guess I'm just grumpy tonight. Sorry.
I agree.

I haven't had this issue until this version, but they removed a bug that I actually liked where if I had a video on pause it wouldn't go to the screen saver & login screen.

How did you downgrade without losing your settings?

I am very grateful that you corrected the error of MP4 and VLC 3.0.19 final files crashing or closing by themselves. Because I really needed to turn off hardware accelerated decoding for the MP4 files to work normally, to play them.

But I got error information that MP4 720p 60 fps files are taking a long time to render or move from one frame to another. An example of this is that when playing a video I move from one second to another by clicking the left mouse when selecting an extra second and it ends up taking a while to play the video, I would like this to be corrected

Remembering that this error also occurs with webm 720p 60 fps vp9 files

Checking for errors can be valid for any MP4 or webm video quality as a test, as this error is occurring on my machine, Windows 11 x64
AMD R5 220 graphics card
8 GB of RAM with Intel i3-3240 CPU 3.40 GHz processor

Thank you in advance dear !

This update is a bit of a disaster. Setting video output to *auto* or *D3D11* causes a crash.
Other settings appear to work but are also problematic.
The issue appears when attempting to play a series of videos (Open Folder). The first video will play fine but the next will play audio with a black screen or frozen screen. Pressing [STOP] the [PLAY] will resume normal service.

Hi, I just joined and wanted to mention that I have this same issue as well that started right after I updated to 3.0.19 Vetimari, and I'm using Windows 10 64-Bit with AMD Graphics.

I just tried this one, but it still crashes when trying to play media, so I was forced to downgrade to 3.0.18 again.

Please try this nightly build and report back:
https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1015-0225/
unfortunately, still the same, only without 'oops, vlc media player crashed' ... message when trying a second time.
however, provided workaroud (change video output from 'automatic' to 'Direct3D 9') did the trick on this nightly build version for me (AMD Radeon HD6750 GPU)
Well, trying https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/ ... 1019-0220/ instead and so far it has not crashed.

@kevb40

after selecting <preferences> <video> and changing output to <OpenGl video output for windows>, the programme did indeed not crash, and it even started the DVD in my drive. but I was unable to select any of the menu options on the opening page or click anything with my mouse. which means the film itself would not play. so this does not immediately appear to be an actual solution.

maybe I should not have selected <OpenGl video output for windows>, but there are thirteen options under <output>. I also tried <Windows GDI video output> and this made the little player menu at the bottom left disappear, and once again I was unable to play a film. so just saying, "don't choose automatic," might be a step in the right direction but some knowledgable advice about what I should be selecting, rather than just what not to pick, would be appreciated.

thank you,

Martin

I just upgraded to VLC's latest version and am also experiencing crashing videos. However, audio files do not crash. I have used VLC for MANY years. Has anyone found a fix yet?
My system is Windows 10 Pro 64bit, and Chrome browser is updated.
