17 Second Delay

Starting last night, there is a 17 second delay before it plays a video.
This is the first time I had a problem with this program.
I'm using Windows 10 and the version of the program I'm using is 3.01.18

I don't know what's going on, but it just started working properly again

It's still doing this problem.
It's annoying when you have to click on 3 or 4 videos before it plays right away again

If you don't know what differs between normal and slow, it's unlikely that anybody would be able to help, since nobody else seems to have your problem.

I'm getting the same thing. The first use of VLC by just double clicking a video in File Explorer takes a loooong time to load, like the OP's 17 seconds. If you close it, then click another video, then another, they come up fast. When you come back in an hour or two later, the first one has a long load again. It's though VLC has to build some helper file before the first use, then that later gets cleared from cache and has to be rebuilt again. I'm at ver 3.0.18.

Turn off your antivirus software.

VLC taking long the first time after boot but not later means that loading it from disk is slow. Either your hardware is slow, or overloaded, or you have some software interfering (such as AV as Gruko noted).

That seems like a different problem from OP.
